Hey all! I’m a little under the weather today, so I thought I’d use the time for a little update.
Hopefully, you’ve seen my posts about the Kickstarter campaign for The Last House. If not, please go HERE to check it out. I’ve got a nice list of pledge tier rewards for you—everything from signed book copies, digital copies, and limited additions, to t-shirts, pins, CDs, and acknowledgments. And we have a wide range of monetary levels to choose from. Please go check it out!
Sign up for my newsletter below, and/or subscribe to my blog. That way, you’ll be notified when I’ve got something new in the works and I won’t have to spam Facebook just to get a few of you to see. Don’t worry! I rarely send out newsletters—not even once a month—so I promise not to inundate your inboxes with nonsense. But this way, you’ll get updates when I have something meaningful to share.
Facebook seems to suppress my author-related posts so very few of you see them unless I pay to boost. I don’t mind paying some to boost a post, but when it gets too expensive, it defeats the purpose of the Kickstarter campaign. So please, sign up!
What I’m reading
I’m reading Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. I just started it, so I don’t have a lot to say yet, but the premise is intriguing. It’s a modern fantasy set at Yale University and has to do with a magical secret society. Good stuff so far!
Just finished The Enchantments of Mammon: How Capitalism Became the Religion of Modernity by Eugene McCarraher. A massive volume, well-researched, and impressive. Worth a look if you’re into this kind of thing.
Up next? All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace. I took part in a query group with this author before she landed her deal and it’s been a joy to see her book take off. It was released last week and has graced the pages of Entertainment Weekly and other national publications as one of those most anticipated novels of 2020. It’s YA fantasy with pirates and all kinds of fun stuff. Can’t wait to check it out.
What I’m Watching
Parasite – Great movie. Worth a watch, though if you haven’t seen it yet, try to keep an open mind. It’s hard to come to this movie fresh with all the Oscar hype, but it’s one of my top ten this year for sure.
The Outsider (HBO) – Wow. This thing plays like a procedural in the vein of True Detective, but it’s Stephen King, so you know there’s more to it than a simple crime show. Having read the book, I can say it’s faithful but never to a fault. Sets a perfect tone—creepy and mysterious.
Chilling Tales of Sabrina (Netflix) – I loved the first season, liked the second. The third is back to love again. Made by the same people who brought us Riverdale, it’s better than its sister show, and a lot more fun.
Glitch (Netflix) – An Australian series about a group of dead people who one day climb out of their graves looking as they did when they died. It’s a mystery with a little Lost thrown in. It’s got some clunky moments, and I’d love for the themes to be explored with a little more depth, but it’s still intriguing as is. We’re on the fence.
OK that’s it! Please go to my Kickstarter and pledge on a tier to support The Last House. And please, please, please sign up for my newsletter and/or subscribe to my blog below!!!
